The USGS Earthquake center (http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/) is an excellent source of earthquake information. The center’s scientists track earthquake activity worldwide and provide up to the minute information on seismic activity. Copy and paste the following URL into your internet browser.

Look at the USA map of earthquakes. You may also find it interesting to click on the animation to see up to date earthquake activity in the US.

Answer the following questions in the submission box and submit when done. Be sure to identify each question.

S 1) STATE the concept behind the website. (2 pt.)

E 2) ELABORATE on the concept: explain fully why certain areas (locations) have a much higher number of earthquakes than others. (2 pt.)

E 3) EXEMPLIFY the concept: locate, name, and describe the area of greatest concentration of earthquakes. (3 pt.)

I 4) Illustrate the concept: Using graphs, pictures, and/or tables, and text, describe the largest most recent earthquake; provide information on its magnitude, depth, and ecological & biological impacts to the region. (Do this by finding the World Lists of earthquakes on the same webpage and clicking on Magnitude 5+.) (3 pt.)
